Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce
Petition for a Constitutional Convention in New York State

After several years calling for reform, transparency, and accountability of our New York State Government; and based upon official public policy positions supporting True Budget Reform in New York State , No Confidence in New York State Government , and a Call for a Constitutional Convention in New York State the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce is moving forward this petition, seeking support for a Constitutional Convention in New York State.

New York State continues to struggle in establishing and passing a budget on time, continues to propose a budget with increasing costs, and continues to burden New Yorkers with tax and spend policies.

As the unified voice of the business community within the Mohawk Valley we assert that our government has failed to respond for the call to action by the people of New York State and that the governor and legislature have neither the will nor the capacity to effect the positive changes required to reverse the long term downward trend, as evidenced AGAIN by the recent stalemate in establishing an acceptable New York State Budget on time.

Our official position is not intended to be directed at any one elected official, but at the process of government; a process that has proven to be broken and headed in the wrong direction. This is a long-term trend that has lasted for several years with no clearly defined agenda to reverse this trend.

This is not a question of who has the majority or who is in charge; this is a question of getting the people's business done and avoiding further hardship for the people of New York State.

The citizens of New York State look to their leadership for needed reform and fiscal responsibility. The current practice of government has not demonstrated a proactive, disciplined approach to making the changes needed. Now is the time to make the brave and bold moves necessary to get New York State back on track and relieve our state from the economic stress that it is now facing.

The signatures contained within this petition support the convening of a Constitutional Convention to rebuild our New York State government and create a functioning, efficient body that works for all of New York and sets aside their own self interests. It's about the WHOLE of New York, not its individual PARTS.
